Night & Weekend Tariffs

Understanding taxi rates for different times and days

Taxi Tariff Structure

Taxi fares in Greece are regulated and follow a standardized pricing structure based on time of day. The meter automatically adjusts rates depending on when you travel, ensuring transparent and fair pricing.

All taxis must use their meters, and the rate displayed on the meter will reflect the correct tariff for the time of day. There are two main tariff rates: Tariff 1 (daytime) and Tariff 2 (nighttime).

Important: The meter should display which tariff is being used. Check that the correct tariff is applied for the time of day.

Quick Reference

Tariff 1 (Day Rate)
05:00 - 24:00 (midnight)
€0.68 per km
Tariff 2 (Night Rate)
00:00 (midnight) - 05:00
€1.36 per km

Weekends & Public Holidays

Good News for Travelers

Unlike some countries, Greece does NOT apply weekend surcharges for taxi fares. The same tariff structure (Tariff 1 or Tariff 2 based on time) applies seven days a week.

This means traveling on Saturday or Sunday doesn't cost more than Monday through Friday - a welcome relief for weekend travelers!

Public Holidays

Similarly, Greek public holidays do not attract surcharges on taxi fares. The regular tariff structure remains in effect.

Whether you arrive on Christmas Day, Easter, or Greek Independence Day (March 25), you'll pay the standard rate based solely on the time of day.

Money-Saving Tips

⏰ Time Your Arrival

If possible, choose flights that arrive after 5:00 AM to avoid the night rate, which can double your taxi fare.

👥 Share Rides

Traveling with friends or family? Share a taxi to split the cost. Taxis can accommodate up to 4 passengers at the same fare.

✅ Check the Meter

Always ensure the meter is on and showing the correct tariff (1 or 2) before starting your journey to avoid disputes.
